Four Levels of  Life is Sweet at Kumansenu

1.LITERAL COMPREHENSION :
All the action of the story takes place in a small African village, Kumansenu where an old woman, Bola stays alone with her granddaughter, Asi. In fact, she had given the birth of six boys child but each six times they had died. Again 7th time, she bore a boy child, luckily that seventh child survived for many years and his name was Meji. He also bore a daughter whose name was Asi. In the story, he had died on Friday in an accident of town office where he had worked for many years. According to his wife, as he opened the window to call the messenger, accidentally window fell and its edge almost cut his head off. But the very surprising matter is that he had come in front of the Bola being a live from the tomb and also given chocolate to his daughter. In the story, he has come to meet his mother, Bola on Friday and left house late Sunday midnight.

On Sunday afternoon, many villagers gather and as they hear Meji's presence from Bola's mouth, they mock her saying due to pain of tragic death of her son, .she made fantasy. Later from village magician, Musa we know that if she had destroyed her sixth son's broken bones, he could not have come pretending to be alive. However, Bola is quite happy of not destroying his bone because he could come and talk to her.

2.INTERPRETATION :
It is a supernatural story. In the story Bola's 7th son, Meji being alive from the tomb comes to meet his mother, Bola. Actually, in this story, he had died in town on Friday. He worked as a clerk in a town office. Accidentally, he was almost beheaded by the fallen edge of the window. In the story, he was the ghost Meji because as he was returning back through the desert way with his daughter. Asi was surprised of not seeing his shadow behind him. Likewise, he wears scarf around his neck, so that his head would not fall down. From the magician Musa, we know that Bola had not destroyed her sixth child bone, so he often comes to visit her pretending alive. could get little solace from her son, Meji's presence. The story really is filled by other supernatural elements like the goldsmith could not open the Asi's locket but later Asi remembering its hidden secret, she herself opened. Likewise, the ghost Meji went outside of this room that Saturday midnight and stood on the veranda but he was unwet in such downfall. Thus the writer shows supernatural elements throughout the text.

3.CRITICAL THINKING :
The major unacceptable idea of the text is its supernatural element. In this scientific world, we can not believe such elements. So, can a dead man become alive? Similarly, cannot we see our shade while walking? Likewise can a scarf upright the head? Magic man, Musa had said the secret to Bola that her son came back alive because Bola had not destroyed his bone. Is it possible to return back dead man if we keep his/her bone? Does it give any moral lesson ? So, an intelligent reader finds the text meaningless and senseless. It does not give any moral lesson. Instead, it aims to terrify for the reader. So does not it terrify the reader ?

4.ASSIMILATION :
After reading this story, I remembered my childhood time in which one village woman named Sita died while getting birth of a baby. That dead woman was from poor background and by job, she was a prostitute. She was socially outcast. On her death, the police inspector came to investigate and her dead body was taken to hospital for postmortem. After that many villager gathered and buried her dead body in the river side.

After her death, many villagers experienced that the woman, Sita often came to haunt them. Similarly nobody dared to walk from that river after 5 O'clock in the evening. But one local priest found the remedy to solve the problem. He invited all villagers in the evening in his house. Then he chanted many mantras. After chanting mantras by that priest, she never came back to trouble innocence villagers.
