About love is beautiful love story written by Russian dramatist, short story writer of physician, Anton Chekhovs (1860-1904). In this story, he has talked about three dimensional love stories. The first is of Nikanor and Pelageya, second is of Alyohin & a Russian girl and third is of Alyohin & a married woman Anna. The love of Luganovich & Anna is one of the third part. These three stories are the representatives of the three categories of love.
In a rainy day, Alyohin narrates love stories to his friend while having breakfast. Nakanor who was a cook, was in love with a beautiful maid servant, Pelageya. They were living in the same house although they were not married. Nikanor used to be drunk and had a violent temper. He used to abuse & bit her. Sometimes, Pelageya had to hide herself in order to avoid misconduct from Nikanor being a person of religious conviction, Nikanor insisted that pelageya. However she did not want to marry with Nikanor rather she was ready to live with him just for showing. Despite there contradictory views and characters they were in deep love with each other which was great mystery.
While Alyohin studying at university used to be in love with a university girl & was living with her in the same house. Although Alyohin wanted to devote himself completely in love, the girl constantly used to think about monetary and house hold matters and about destiny loves. He considered such kind of behaviours in love would be the hindrance and source of irritation and dissatisfaction.
Alyohin had also narrated his own love story with Anna Alexeyvana. After coming back home after graduation from university. He found that the land and properties had been mortgaged by his father to meet his education expenses. He decided to live in the village working in the farm to pay off the debt. However he had been elected and honorary justice of court of peace and had to go to the town frequently to participate in court session. One day he was invited to dinner by Mr. Luganovich, the assistant president of court. There, Alyohin meet his wife Anna. He realised as if he had been familiar with Anna from his childhood. After that meeting Alyohin started visiting Anna's house very frequently and gradually they started to fall in love with each other. However being trapped by their reason and logics because of fear of social criticism, they couldn't express their love to each other. Being tired of maintaining the relationship with her husband and Alyohin, Anna started exhibiting carelessness towards her family & became a patient of nervous prostration disease. She was advised to make a medical treatment in the Crimea. Luganovich transferred order to western province. To bid farewell to Anna huge crowd was there at railway station on the day of her departure when she bade farewell to her husband, children, & friends. Alyohin entered into the cavin to see her off. When their eyes met they couldn't resist themself from expressing their love. In the mean while the train started to be moving and Alyohin got down at the next stoppage and moved homewards with a heavy heart. On listening to his story, Alyohin's friend concluded that Alyohin should devote himself in other profession rather than farming to keep him happy.
The writer is trying to show the mysterious nature of love by discussing there love stories. Love is not confined and restricted by physical restriction because it is guided by emotion of human beings. Showing restlessness of Alyohin who was a Bachelor and was in love with Anna despite the fact that she was mother of children, the writer has proved that love is not confined by marital relationship.
