Four Levels of King David's Crime
1.LITERAL COMPREHENSION :
'KING DAVID'S CRIME' is a story taken from the holy Bible. It is about King David's immorality and cruelty. he was the king of Israel. once he sent his soldiers to fight against the people of Ammon. but he stayed in his Palace in Jerusalem.
one evening, he saw a beautiful woman taking bath in her house. she was immensely beautiful. her beauty grew lust in the king. he inquired about her. she was bath-she-ba, the wife of U-ri'ah. he sent his men to bring her to his Palace and slept with her.Later, she informed him that she conceived his baby.
David was immoral and characterless king.He made bath-she-ba pregnant knowing the fact that she was the wife of U-ri'ah , his lowel soldier who was fighting in the battle field for the sake of his country.To conceal his crime ,he immediately called U-ri'ah from the battle so that would go home sleep with his wife and considered his baby as his own. but U-ri'ah refused to go home and sleep comfortably while he is lord Ju'ab and other soldiers were compeled to spend night in the open field. king made him drunk to get his mission fulfilled but his plan did not work because U-ri'ah slept at the door of his palace. then he made conspiracy to kill U-ri'ah. next morning, he sent U-ri'ah to the battle field with a letter to Ju'ab in which he ordered him to set U-ri'ah in forefront of the hottest battle. As expected U-ri'ah was killed in the war. when the message of his death was brought to the Palace, Bath-she-ba mourned for her husband. when mourning was over, king David sent his men to fetch Bath-she-ba to the palace.He kept her as his wife.Later, she bore him a son.But David's crime displeased the God.
2.INTERPRETATION :
this story maybe intending to expose human vices. sensual lust make human being immoral and cruel. King David could not control is lust. so he forget morality, not only that he became cruel by intentionally setting U-ri'ah in the forefront of war to kill him simply to hide his crime. The story also maybe try to tell us that powerful people are corrupt and they often misuse their power. we can also infer that uncontrolled lustly desires result in the downfall of even powerful and prestigious people. maybe it is suggesting us to control our sensual desires and use our senses properly.
3.CRITICAL THINKING :
this realistic story portrays the true picture of the society. Exposition of the misuse of the power and position is really convincing yet reader May raise the question when the story says King David's action displeased the God. How do we know that our action displeased the God?
4.ASSIMILATION :
This story has helped me to understand myself better. it also taught me that I should not follow the example of a great person if his action is bad . Absolute power corrupts the leadership of the rulers. if the rulers are corrupt the whole society decay. now I knew why my country has not improved. Immoral and undemocratic politician have used their power for their personal benefits, not for the development of the country. therefore the condition of my country becoming worse everyday.

ANSWER: In this story 'YUDHISHTHIRA'S WISDOM' which has been taken from the Hindu holy book, the Mahabharata, describes the great wisdom of Yudhishthira, the oldest of the Pandavas. it describes how he saved his dearly brothers giving the right answer to all the philosophical questions posed by Yakshya.
During their exile, Pandavas brothers live in the forest. one scorching Summer Day, they set off for hunting. they had been running after a deer, but the deer vanished in the forest. they got tired and grew thirsty.they went to all directions for some sign of water but did not find it anywhere. Yudhishthira sent his youngest brother Sahadeva in search of water . when did not return, he sent Nakula, Bhima and Arjuna one by one. But none of them returned back. Then suspecting that something Evil has overtaken them, he became anxious and went to search them following their foot steps.And soon he came Upon a beautiful pool. To his great surprise, his saw all his brothers there, lying either died or unconscious .he fell on his knees and began to weep bitterly.
On known to Yudhisthira, Sahadev had arrived to the enchanted pool to quench his thirst. As he was ready to drink water, a voice broke through the Silence and forbade him to drink water until his questions were settled. Startled through, Sahadeva could not stay without drinking water, as a result ,he fell down on the ground . One by one each brother had defined the warning of the individual voice and had felt the strange test thereby meeting the same fade.
After a while Yudhishthira bent down to drink the inviting water in his turn, the same voice stopped him with the same warning .He heartily obeyed Yakshya and answered him intelligently . Yakshya was pleased with yudhisthira and wanted to restore one of his brothers .
