1.LITERAL COMPREHENSION :
The poem 'THE ILLITERATE' was written by the famous Nepali poet Laxmi Prasad devkota. He was born in 1909 A.D. and he left the world in 1959 A.D. at the age of 50. he was multi talented person. In this poem he compared the uneducated person with different things, objects and animals. According to him uneducated person don't understand the value of sunshine because an educated person utilize the energy of sun in different way but uneducated person use Sun only to determine the day and night. Laxmi Prasad devkota also compared them with wind because the wind flows in any Direction, they don't have any destinations, likewise uneducated persons don't have any kind of aim or destinations in their life. they were also compared with vegetables. Because as vegetables are used to fill our hunger ,educated person use them to fill their hunger by giving them laborious work. they were also compared with the pets (i.e dog) because dogs were so honest towards their owner .they move at the behest of their owner .Likewise Uneducated person moves in gesture of educated person .Uneducated person can't solve the problems, they need to ask with the educated persons. they don't have any ability to determine what is wrong and what is right .At last Laxmi Prasad devkota request to the God for giving them an opportunity to make educated person themselves .
2.INTERPRETATION :
The writer may be trying to tell us about the importance of education in our life.He explained how a person become inferior in society if he had not taken education like in the poem. it is also suggesting to take better education ,otherwise educated person utilize their power for their personal benefits.Education is very important to get success in our life.
3.CRITICAL THINKING :
The poem 'The Illiterate' written by Laxmi Prasad devkota was really inspirable to the uneducated person. he explains the reality of society. There is different way to see the educated person and uneducated person in the society .He explains the role of education in our life. education was an important factor of life which all people have to achieve to make life easier, successful etc .
In spite of positive points ,there were some negative points of this poem they are: how a human beings can be compared with animals? Is it compulsory to be educated to get respect in the society?If so then why does the rich people get respect in the society even they are not educated? is it necessary to be educated to solve any kind of problems ? besides this questions the poem was really inspiring.
4.ASSIMILATION :
After reading this poem ,I realized that education is not the things which should active for the job purpose only it is the Gateway of respect, Pride, unity etc. education plays a great role to make the life of human beings easier ,meaningful ,successful ,bright etc . education can be taken as the third eyes of person which can see the world in different way rather than others.
