          GREAT SCOTT ! GADZOOKS !
                                                   -Roald Dahl
4 Level of great scott gadzooks

1.LITERAL COMPREHENSION :
In this poem the poet Roald Dahl is exposing the impacts of television on children. He suggests us not to let our children watch TV because TV watching TV makes them both physically and mentally passive .they get hypnotized by TV and watch it .even if their eyes swell out. they Grabs unnecessary ideas from TV.
Apparently watching TV has some merits. parents become free to accomplish their tasks if children are busy in watching TV . Sitting infront of TV , children remain silent .they don't fight ,make noise and climb on the window. Mother can prepare lunch, wash the dishes without any disturbance. but as a parent we need to think seriously about the bad impacts of TV . our children's soft and sensitive minds get spoiled by misinformation provided by TV. they loose their creativity and thinking capacity. the poet says that it is possible to entertain our children even in the absence of TV. he gives proof be contented by reading interesting and fantastic stories ,novels and poems . they could imagine the things while reading those books .
Therefore it is every parents' responsibility to protect their children from the harmful consequences of watching TV. it can be done by installing lovely book shelf in place of TV and filling it with various books . In the beginning children may revolt against our action and turn violent but within one or two weeks when they have nothing else to pass time, they will start reading books . Once they become habitual of reading books; they will never be attracted to TV. Reading books makes them creative and Critical thinkers.
2.INTERPRETATION :
This poem might be trying to tell us that the TV set has prevented children from reading books. it may also be interpreted to mean that parents are also responsible for spoiling their children. they have to think seriously about the negative impacts of watching TV .Children are loosing their creativity and thinking capacity .
3.CRITICAL THINKING :
This poem has beautifully presented the trouble of every parents. It is true that children don't read any good books apart from their textbook. but the poem has ignored the advantage children get by watching TV. How does watching Television kill children’s imagination?
4.ASSIMILATION :
After reading this poem I remembered an event occured in my home. When TV was brought to my home ,my little brother became so obsessed with it that he started to watch it all the time. Because of this, he had pain in his eyes because of continuously watching TV and couldn’t even hear people calling him as he was so focused on it. so he had to go to a hospital for eye exercise every week. Thank god his eyes were cured .
