'Where the Mind is Without Fear' is a patriotic poem composed by Rabindranath Tagore. He has expressed his deep patriotic feeling in this poem.

He is asking the heavenly father to transform his country into such a heaven where people's mind is free from fear and head is high in dignity. Human beings gain knowledge freely if their mind is free from any kind of fear. He further wishes to see his country not being divided by narrow unseen domestic walls and dead traditions. He wishes that the people of his country would not lie to each other. They should be laborious to lead the nation towards the way of development. He wants his people to use their reason and creative thoughts to solve any kind of problem. He prays to the God to make his country like heaven where only peace and freedom exist without any prejudice, discrimination and disparity.

2. INTERPRETATION :
This poem may be trying to tell us that Our mind should be free from fear.Also there is the importance of freedom from every negativity, the importance of education and knowledge in human life. The poem is dedicated to establishing humanity, Peace, Unity, justice & freedom, in the world. Our country or world should be free from prejudice and discrimination.

3. CRITICAL THINKING :
Although the poem is persuasive, moral, and patriotic, I have some questions regarding the some points of this poem.
1) Does God have any power & authority to change the world?
2) Is it possible to survive without any kind of fear?
3) Can the world exist without injustice, war, and violence?

4. ASSIMILATION :
After reading this poem I am highly inspired to live fearless life. I am very much impressed by the ideas of the poem which says that our country should be peaceful where there is humanity, unity & justice. And free from prejudice, discrimination, injustice, and crime.

Q.1. What are the various ways for ideal state given by Rabindranath Tagore ?

ANSWER : In the poem, Tagore is searching an ideal state and to make such state, he gives many ways. At first he says that people mind should be fearless. Secondly, the state should not be divided into various parts taking the narrow concept. If it divided into several parts, it would not be ideal state. Thirdly, it is necessary that people should speak truth and people should not cheat each other. Fourthly, state always should respect new ideas. It means that country should not interfere for new ideas. Fifthly, people's mind should be broad and wide because ignorant people can't make ideal state.

Q.2. Is it possible to find such state in reality ?

ANSWER : Of course not. People are vile and corrupted. Anyway, we should honour such hypothesis because he was the man of peace loving. So he wants to get birth in such state. It may be the reason that he was influenced by our holy lord Ram's Rajya, so he hopes to find out the same types of state in reality. Whatever the Tagore proposed in the poem, they were his hypothesis. If the statesmanship adopted few points mentioned by Tagore, the points would certainly help to bring out fruitful result for the people and the country.

ANSWER : The modern world or his contemporary people are so corrupted; wicked, selfish, etc. and ignorant people are being cheated .Similarly people wage war and destroy many infrastructures. So as a lover of humanity and peace, the poem conveys the message, to love nation and humanity. If he were happy with existing world, he would not write many ways for making ideal state.

ANSWER : The poet has wished a country where no discriminations prevail, no narrow domestic walls disturb, no mind is blocked for getting prefect truth, and no any social evils come between when truth comes out, in such a heavenly state he praises the god to let him be born or awakened.
