It is important for managers to know what factors lead human resource toward good work performance and productivity. An employee who is not motivated cannot contribute good performance no matter how able he or she is. It is energetic force that drives people to behave in particular ways. Individuals in the organization are motivated by different factors. Some individuals are motivated by monetary incentives whereas other are motivated to work by challenging responsibility.

This motivation is related to the job one is doing. When a skilled operative performs a job well, he or she derives a sense of satisfaction. Intrinsic motivation satisfies the creative instinct in an individual.
